KUALA LUMPUR: Instead of the usual loops along city roads, runners who took part in the Saucony The Maze Kuala Lumpur run traded open roads for the historic halls of the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station on Saturday night.
Participants raced through one of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks, turning the century-old station into an unconventional ground to test speed, focus and teamwork.
Malaysian runner Ryan Raj, 25, said the opportunity to experience a race concept he had seen staged elsewhere in the world was what attracted him to the event.
“I’ve seen this happen around the world and now that it is happening in KL, I think it’s very appealing.”
Raj said the unusual venue also gave runners a chance to compete on a course unlike any they had encountered before.
According to Saucony Malaysia country head Regine Wong, the race was designed to put the running community at its centre by bringing local run clubs together to compete as teams while challenging them with an unconventional route.
