The construction of the new Seremban Sentral railway station has reached 35% progress and is expected to be completed by March 2027, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
According to Bernama, Loke said the project’s most challenging early stages, including piling works and the relocation of underground utilities, have been completed, allowing construction to accelerate.
“In the early stages, work was relatively slow because piling takes a long time. The piling locations must be extremely precise and underground wiring and cables also had to be relocated, which was why the initial works took longer,” he told reporters after inspecting the KTMB Seremban station project.
“After that was completed, construction work will accelerate, including roof installation, glass structures and other finishing works. This project is very challenging, but after more than two years, it has reached the stage where the piling has been completed,” he added.
The nearly RM100 million project will integrate the existing KTMB Seremban station, which is more than 100 years old, with a new modern facility to create a more efficient and passenger-friendly transport hub.
Designed as a green building featuring Minangkabau-inspired architecture, the new station will include commercial areas and is expected to accommodate up to 30,000 passengers daily initially, with expansion capacity of up to 120,000 passengers a day in the future.
