SEREMBAN: The Seremban Sentral Station project is on track for completion by March next year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
He said the RM100 million project, which began two years ago and is currently about 35 per cent complete, will integrate the century-old KTM Seremban station with a modern terminal featuring green building elements, commercial spaces, and architecture inspired by Negri Sembilan's Minangkabau heritage.
"Upon completion, it will be able to accommodate around 30,000 passengers daily, with provision for future expansion from three to six platforms, increasing its capacity to handle up to 120,000 passengers a day.
"When the station is completed, we will be able to increase the frequency of KTM Komuter and ETS services. One of our strategies is to encourage more people to live in Seremban while commuting to the Klang Valley by rail," he said during a site visit to the project today.
He said the project faced significant engineering challenges during its early stages because construction had to be carried out while the existing KTM Seremban station remained operational.
According to Loke, piling works took longer than expected due to the need to relocate numerous underground utilities and cables without disrupting train services.
